NAVTEQ Traffic™ real-time data to be delivered in Turkey via Spectrum Medya

Turkish drivers can now access the world’s top traffic source through Radio Data System (RDS)

Jul 16, 2012

Ankara, Turkey – July 16, 2012 - Nokia today announced that its Location & Commerce business is providing NAVTEQ Traffic™ services to Spectrum Medya for distribution via Radio Data System (RDS). A leading Turkish broadcaster, Spectrum Medya will now be able to broadcast real-time traffic information across six major markets in Turkey including Istanbul, Ankara, Adana, and Izmir. This is the first time delivery of NAVTEQ Traffic™ has been available in Turkey via RDS - which is just one of a variety of distribution formats available to Nokia’s Location & Commerce customers. It follows the introduction in Turkey at the end of last year of NAVTEQ Traffic Pro™, a connected service delivered in XML format.

“We are very proud to be working with Nokia, Location & Commerce, the global leader in real-time traffic information”, commented Ali Abhary, CEO of Spectrum Medya.  “Twenty years ago, Spectrum stations were the first private radio stations in Turkey and we’re very excited to be still innovating today and launching one of the first and broadest RDS traffic services in Turkey.”

NAVTEQ Traffic™ provides highly-accurate, up-to-the minute traffic information in 29 countries to in-vehicle navigation systems, personal navigation devices and cell phones to enable drivers to save time, fuel and frustration.   The traffic data is aggregated from a vast wealth of sources, including the world’s largest compilation of both commercial and consumer probe data, the world’s largest fixed proprietary sensor network, event-based data collected from government sources and billions of historical traffic records.

Delivered faster, fresher and more frequently than other services, NAVTEQ Traffic™  gives drivers the most accurate traffic information they need, when they need it.  In Turkey, it offers information on the speed of travel, traffic incidents and other events impacting travel in 13 cities and on 15,000 kilometres of road network.

“Our goal is to make real-time traffic information available to as many drivers as possible,” added Ogi Redzic, vice president for NAVTEQ Traffic™.  ”The agreement with Spectrum Medya underlines our mission to expand our traffic services across Turkey, especially on the heavily congested roads of Istanbul.  We are confident that our traffic services will be a valuable tool helping motorists avoid congestion and reduce the amount of time spent behind the wheel.”

NAVTEQ Traffic™ services in RDS format will be available in Turkey via Spectrum Medya from July 2012.
