NAVTEQ Introduces Advanced Visual Content for Argentina

Motorway Junction Objects and Enhanced Junction Views enable applications that simplify the driving experience

Sep 15, 2011

Buenos Aires– August 1, 2011– NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, announced that navigating Argentina’s complex highways will get a little easier with the availability of Motorway Junction Objects and Enhanced Junction Views for the NAVTEQ® map of Argentina. This first of its kind visual content for navigation systems enables NAVTEQ customers to ease driver stress by providing realistic 3D visualization of complex junctions to end-users of these navigation devices.

Designed around a rich set of features, Motorway Junction Objects supports improved confidence as drivers approach and drive through complex junctions by enabling a 3D animated view of the junction. This map data not only simulates what end-users see out their windshields, but also enables navigation systems to visually display the correct lane the driver should be in from the beginning of the maneuver through its completion. The Enhanced Junction Views product enables similar end-user benefits, while offering NAVTEQ customers the flexibility to develop a non-animated experience.

All of NAVTEQ’s visual content is designed to work together. For example, NAVTEQ’s 3D Landmarks product, available for the NAVTEQ map of Argentina can easily be combined with Motorway Junction Objects and Enhanced Junction Views to provide an even richer navigation experience.  Similar to the other visual content products, its goal is to improve end-user orientation and guidance. It accomplishes this by enabling display of relevant visuals that provide the right amount of context avoiding an over-cluttered display that can actually be more distracting.

“Location and navigation are evolving rapidly in Argentina and visual content has the potential to grow the market,” stated Fernando Villasol, director South America map and content products for NAVTEQ.  “NAVTEQ is moving fast to bring this next generation content to our customers allowing them to offer enhanced location experiences that end-users value.”

“These new visual enhancements represent NAVTEQ’s ongoing commitment to Argentina”, said Helder Azevedo, general director LATAM sales for NAVTEQ. “Motorway Junction Objects and Enhanced Junction Views for the NAVTEQ map of Argentina enable our customers to more closely match the navigation experience to reality helping to raise the overall acceptance of navigation systems throughout the country.”

NAVTEQ’s advanced visual content products are designed to be flexible, enabling customers to maintain their unique brand experience with features that control color, level of detail and texturing. Technical Customer Support is available to assist NAVTEQ customers in integrating this content.  And because NAVTEQ builds each of its products to the same specification regardless of region or country, customers can more quickly and easily expand their regional reach.  In addition to Argentina, NAVTEQ visual content products are available for the Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.
